CLIP Intermodal expands fleet of wagons
4 March 2020
Clip Intermodal received the first part of T3000e doublepocket wagons (see Wagon Card). The first 16 of the ordered 92 wagons arrived to Swarzędz.
The wagons will be included in existing intermodal connections of which Clip Intermodal is the operator – to Duisburg, Luxembourg, to existing domestic connections as well as to planned new connections with southern Europe (see connections).
Thanks to doublepocket wagons, it is possible to transport intermodal road semi-trailers, which will significantly reduce the number of trucks on the road and reduce CO2 emissions. This is how we implement the slogan “trucks on tracks”. We estimate, that in the case of the connection with Luxembourg, we will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 20.000 tonnes yearly.
Marcin Żurowski, Director of the CLIP Intermodal Terminal:
Doublepocket wagons will complement the existing Clip Intermodal wagon fleet. Currently, we have 180 pcs. of 80″, as well as 60 pcs. of 90″ intermodal wagons. The introduction of doublepocket wagons allows for full optimization of wagons on individual connections and adapting to customer requirements. As a result, we get a very economically effective ecological product that is a response to the growing requirements of the intermodal transport market.
I have to mention that purchase of pocket wagons is part of the project to expand the entire CLIP Logistics Center in Swarzędz with a very modern infrastructure for transhipping intermodal units. As part of this project, 3 RMG cranes with a span of 100 m and 2 RTG cranes will be purchased. The railway infrastructure will also be expanded with further tracks for transhipping trains, a new track siding and a new container storage area will be built. After expansion, the intermodal terminal capacity will increase from the current 4,500 TEU to about 10,000 TEU. Clip Logistics Center will service about 20 intermodal trains a day. I am convinced that in the next few years we will be able to boast of transshipments at the level of 700,000 TEU per year.
